RWA Conference – San Antonio

Me with my teacher and mentor, Lori Wilde

Me with my teacher and mentor, Lori Wilde

Remember when I went to that huge, awesome writers conference last year? I thought that would be hard to top – meeting my agent, editor, and all of my favorite authors in person for the first time. But I have to say, this year’s conference was even more amazing! We were in San Antonio, TX, right on the Riverwalk. It was a beautiful location.

I met so many amazing people, attended some great workshops, had a little conversation with Nora Roberts, and basically packed my brain full of as much information and inspiration as I could absorb. The conference is such an amazing opportunity to meet and network with fellow authors, and this year I came out of my shell and talked to a lot more people.

rwa14_19Oh, and this one other little thing happened…I signed books! My publisher arranged to have advanced copies of Unleashed for me to sign at the Grand Central signing on Saturday. It was totally surreal! My hands were shaking so badly I could hardly write. But once we got started, it went great. Only three more months until I will officially be a published author! :)

FOR KEEPS Cover Reveal!

It’s cover reveal time again! The second book in my Love to the Rescue Series, For Keeps, will be released on January 27th, 2015, and I am so excited to share the cover with you:

For Keeps cover_lo res

Merry Atwater would do just about anything to save her dog rescue — even if it means working with the most stubborn man on the planet. It’s hard to avoid the sparks that fly with TJ Jameson, the ruggedly sexy cowboy in charge of the children’s camp where she’s just taken an animal therapy job. But commitment is not Merry’s style, and TJ clearly wants more than just a roll in the hay.

TJ Jameson isn’t looking for anything complicated — just a peaceful life on his family’s ranch with a wife and kids. “No-strings” Merry Atwater doesn’t fit that bill, no matter how irresistible she is. But when he sees how Merry gets through to his autistic nephew and the other kids at Camp Blue Sky, TJ’s a goner. If he doesn’t give in to the now, he might just lose his shot at forever . . .

I hope you love it as much as I do! I had so much fun writing this book, and I can’t wait for you all to read it. If you’re feeling in the mood to pre-order it, here are some links for you:

You may have noticed there is no Amazon pre-order link this time. Maybe you’ve even tried to pre-order Unleashed recently and noticed it’s no longer available for pre-order on Amazon either. This is because Amazon is currently involved in a contract dispute with my publisher, Hachette Book Group, and has taken down pre-order capability on all Hachette titles (yes, even James Patterson’s!) You can read more in my blog post here.

If you want to purchase my books in paperback, you can still pre-order them from the retailers listed above. In fact, several major booksellers are having big sales on Hachette titles as a result of the Amazon dispute! Google Play currently has Unleashed listed for pre-order at only $3.89, and Books A Million is offering both books for pre-order at just $4.80.

If you are a Kindle reader (as am I), then I urge you to sign up for my e-newsletter (link at the top right of this page) so that I can send you a reminder on release day that they are available for purchase. And if you pre-ordered Unleashed for Kindle before the dispute began, they say they will honor those pre-orders, so you should be all set!

Thanks for your support! :)

You may have heard…

You may have heard talk lately about the ongoing contract negotiations between and Hachette Book Group. If not, here’s a quick recap. While they attempt to reach an agreement, Amazon has removed the ability to pre-order Hachette titles and is slowing delivery of printed books once they have been released.

As you may have guessed, I’m a Hachette author, and Amazon has removed the pre-order button for Unleashed. However it’s still available for pre-order at any of the other major booksellers including Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, and Powell’s, in e-book or print format. Once Unleashed is released, you’ll be able to buy it on for your Kindle, assuming nothing changes between now and then.

Hopefully, this will all be over long before then, but in the meantime, I just wanted to give you a heads up in case you had tried to pre-order Unleashed on Amazon in the last week or so (and if you haven’t – why not?! LOL).

On a happier note, stay tuned because I’ll have a cover reveal for my second book, For Keeps, and and a teaser chapter of Unleashed to share very soon! Make sure you’ve signed up for my e-newsletter because I’ll be sharing them there first – as well as exclusives giveaways for my newsletter subscribers! :)

It’s been a year…

One year ago today, I got an email from my lovely agent Sarah asking if she could call with happy news (the reason she didn’t call directly is that I was out of town dealing with a family emergency). I had just been offered a three book contract from Grand Central Publishing, my biggest dream come true!

A lot has happened this year. I’ve written the second and most of the third books in my Love to the Rescue series, and the release of Unleashed cover_low resUnleashed is only a few months away. Most of the time, it’s still very surreal. I’ve been writing for so long – twenty years if you count the very earliest melodramas my teenage brain cooked up :)

But my books have always been my own personal escape. I write because I love it, because my brain is always thinking up new plots and characters and demanding that I write them down. Now, I’ll be sharing them with the world, and that is both the most exciting – and terrifying – thing in the world.

And yes, still a total dream come true. I am counting down the days until October 28th when I can share Unleashed with you! Stay tuned though, because I’ll have an excerpt to share very soon.

Until then, Happy Reading and Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Unleashed Cover Reveal!

Here’s a blog post I’ll only get to do once…my very first cover reveal! I’ve waited a long time for this moment, and I am thrilled to share the cover for Unleashed:

Unleashed cover_low res

I hope you love it as much as I do! (and if you love this one, just wait until you see the cover for book 2, For Keeps *sigh*) I’m especially fond of the adorable little Boxer. As you may know, Boxers are a big part of the supporting cast of Unleashed.

While I’m at it, let me go ahead and share the official blurb, and oh yes, pre-order links! Yes, I’m on Amazon! And Barnes & Noble! On October 28th, you’ll be able to buy Unleashed in e-book and paperback at all the major booksellers, but if you’re so inclined, you can pre-order your copy today :)

What happens when you find the right one at the wrong time?
Cara Medlen has a serious case of animal attraction. And it’s not because of all the foster dogs she’s rescued. She’s got it bad for her incredibly sexy neighbor. Her one rule: Don’t get attached. It’s served her well with the dogs she’s given to good homes and the children she’s nannied. Yet the temptation of Matt’s sexy smile might just convince her that some rules are made to be broken.

Matt Dumont doesn’t need his skills as a private investigator to detect disaster on the horizon. Cara is everything he thought he’d never find-gorgeous, funny, and caring. But there’s no way he can start a relationship just as he’s about to move to another state. Talk about bad timing. As their attraction sizzles too hot to deny, they’ll have to make a decision: forget the consequences and let loose, or forget each other and let go…

I started blogging with the Ever Afters!

There were plenty of “lowlights” too, but when I look back on 2013, these are the moments I want to remember. :)

I hope you all had an amazing year as well, and here’s to many great things in 2014.

The week that changed everything

This blog post was a long time coming and is tied into so many emotions for me. In May, my novel UNLEASHED went out on submission. This is usually a hugely stressful time for authors, waiting to see if the book they’ve spent countless hours toiling over will sell, if a publisher will love it enough to make an offer to publish it. Usually, it’s a time spent obsessing over your inbox, waiting anxiously for news.

As my book baby went out to publishers, my mom entered hospice care in the final stages of cancer. I was traveling back and forth to Massachusetts to visit her, spending as much time with her as I could. At the same time, I struggled to prepare our house, which had been on the market for a whole year, for showing after showing, while my son was having a major crisis at school.

So this is the background for the week that changed everything. Crazy, right? Yeah, it really was. Then came the call from the hospice house: it was time to prepare for the end. Somewhat numb, I booked my plane ticket from NC, while my sister booked hers from her home in FL. On that last day in North Carolina, I found and enrolled my son in a new school, then I kissed him goodbye and headed to Massachusetts to say goodbye to my mom.

As I sat at my mom’s bedside, I had this odd feeling like big things were about to happen. It was the absolute worst time, as I was away from home, away from my family, waiting for my mom to die. So I almost wasn’t surprised when I got a call that we’d received an offer on the house. It was a good offer too, and we quickly signed a contract to sell the house.

Me and my Mom

My sister and I continued our bedside vigil, and my mom hung on much longer than the doctors had expected. On Thursday night, a week after leaving North Carolina, my lovely agent Sarah delivered more unbelievable news: I had just been offered a three-book contract from Grand Central Publishing, a lifelong dream come true!

My mom was unconscious at this point, but the hospice staff felt that she could still hear us, so I shared my amazing news with her. I was going to be a published author.

The next morning, on her sixty-fourth birthday, my mom passed away.

So, yes, this week changed my life in many and profound ways. My mom was a big supporter of my writing, and I’m so grateful I was able to share my news with her before she passed away.

This one’s for you, Mom…
