My Year in Pictures!

Remember when this little vagabond and his brothers came to visit our patio over the summer?

So, yeah: we took in and tamed a litter of feral kittens.

We kept two (the third was adopted by a friend of mine). They grew up into handsome little cats…

I attended the Romance Writers of America Annual Conference in San Antonio, TX, where I got to hang out with so many of my author friends, meet new ones, and oh yeah, I signed books!!! :)

Which leads me to my next 2014 milestone….

Unleashed was released! I’m a published author. I’ve achieved the #1 item on my bucket list, and hopefully this is only the beginning. I can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store! :)

A few book-related things!

For Keeps cover_lo resI hope you’re enjoying all my 12 Days of Christmas posts – I had a lot of fun putting them all together. In the meantime, I just wanted to share a few book-related things…

For Keeps, the second book in my Love to the Rescue series, will be out in just a few short weeks! My publisher is giving away 10 advanced copies – enter to win one here. While you’re on Goodreads, add For Keeps to your to-read list if you haven’t already! :) (and don’t forget it’s available for pre-order too).

And while we’re talking books, if you’ve had a chance to read Unleashed, I would so greatly appreciate it if you would leave an honest review on Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or whichever retailer you purchased from. Reviews are invaluable to authors (especially new ones!), and I thank you all so much for your support.

My Favorite Books of 2014

I didn’t have a lot of time to read this year (something I hope to fix next year!) but I still managed to read some amazing books. Some of them were by longtime favorite authors of mine, and a couple of them were by authors I hadn’t read before. In no particular order, here they are:

Christmas At Twilight

Lori Wilde’s Christmas at Twilight. This book was heart-wrenching and beautiful. It touches on some dark issues, and it will leave you crying happy tears by the end. Reading it during the Christmas season makes it all the more special, so if you get a chance to read it this month, you really should! :) Lori is my teacher and mentor, and I’m always a big fan of her books, but just read the other reviews if you think I’m biased. This book is fabulous.

Carolina Man

Virginia Kantra’s Carolina Man. This was my first book of Virginia’s, and she had me tearing up on page two when the hero rescues a homeless dog while serving overseas. I was hooked, and she never let me go. This book was everything I look for in a romance: heartfelt, emotional, a vibrant small town setting (of course I’m partial to books set in NC!) and the furry sidekicks didn’t hurt either. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

It Happened One Wedding by Julie James. Julie is an auto-buy author for me. She served up more of the witty, fast-paced banter I’ve come to expect from her in this one, but it was also a really heartwarming story with characters I adored. Her glossy Chicago-set books are a nice departure from the small town southern contemporaries I usually read, and this one is one of my favorites she’s written!

It’s in His Kiss by Jill Shalvis. It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of Jill Shalvis, and her Lucky Harbor series is hands-down my favorite contemporary romance series. This is the 10th book in the series, and one of my favorites, which is saying a lot, as she had already set the bar high in Lucky Harbor. I adored Sam and Becca. Their story was so heartfelt and touching. I loved everything about this book!

Shelter Me

Shelter Me by Catherine Mann. Catherine was another new author for me. A friend recommended her, and as soon as I saw the cover, I knew I had to read this book. As you might have guessed based on my own books, I’m a huge sucker for a book involving animal rescue, and this one, well…Catherine delves even deeper into the gritty realities of animal rescue than I do in Unleashed. I cried several times reading it. It’s definitely a heavy book, but ultimately so heartwarming. I highly recommend it!

Head over to my Facebook page, because I’ll be giving away copies of these books, and Unleashed, all week! Don’t miss it! :)

Lots of fun things coming!

I have a lot of exciting things coming up in the next few weeks (namely lots of fun giveaways and other holiday goodies!). So here’s a quick rundown:

Every day next week, I’ll be giving away one of these books, as well as a copy of Unleashed. This is going to be a Facebook giveaway, so if you haven’t “liked” my author page yet, now is a good time! :)

Then on Friday December 12th, I’ll be joining 20 other contemporary romance authors for a 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop. We’ll be sharing holiday favorites and giving away lots of fun goodies. Stay tuned right here on my blog starting on the 12th!

And if that isn’t enough, I’ve got a cover reveal for Love to the Rescue book 3, Ever After, coming up soon. Might I remind you of the hotness of Deputy Pete Sampson? My editor was thoughtful enough to ask the cover model to pose for a shirtless picture for our enjoyment :)

That’s all for now. Happy almost-Friday, everyone! :)

Happy “Birthday” to my girl Lacy

Eight years ago today, we brought home this beautiful girl. She’d been abused, neglected, then dumped at the shelter where she gave birth to a litter of puppies that didn’t make it. She was two years old. She’s ten now, and we love her more every day.

There’s something extra special about a rescue dog. They appreciate life even more because they know how good they’ve got it now! :) Lacy’s getting pretty old and gray these days, but she’s still as sassy as ever. Little known fact: she almost got to be the cover model for Unleashed, but I didn’t have quite the right shot, and her face is too white now for a re-shoot. She’s still pretty gorgeous though, right? :) (the photo below is Lacy in her younger years)

To honor Lacy, and all rescue dogs and the people who work so hard to save them, if you make a donation to an animal rescue group today, I will gift you a copy of Unleashed. Just email me at rachellaceycontest (at) gmail (dot) com with a screenshot of your donation (personal info removed of course), and I’ll send you your choice of a signed paperback (US only please) or e-book (Kindle or Nook format).

Not sure who to donate to? I can personally recommend Carolina Boxer Rescue. They saved Lacy and rescue hundreds of boxers every year. As a volunteer run organization, every penny you donate goes directly to medical bills and other care for the dogs. And of course you can never go wrong with the ASPCA. The ASPCA works tirelessly to save homeless animals in America and bring awareness to the laws and services needed to better protect them.

Happy “Birthday” Lacy, and here’s to many more! :)

Happy News!

Maybe you’ve heard about the ongoing contract dispute between Amazon and Hachette, or maybe you hadn’t. But today they came to terms, which means Amazon will again try to help me sell books. Happy news!

For now, Unleashed is on sale for $3.89 for Kindle, which is a great deal! If you’ve been waiting to grab a copy, now is a great time.

And my second book, For Keeps, is available for pre-order for the first time on Amazon. It will release on January 27th.

Happy reading! :)

The Dogs Behind Unleashed

Whether you’ve read it yet or not, you probably know that Unleashed features several lovable furry characters. Maybe you wondered if any of them were inspired by real dogs, and yes, some of them were. That’s what this post is all about! :)

If you’ve read any of my recent interviews, you’ve probably heard me talking about the photo that inspired Unleashed. As a volunteer with my local boxer rescue group, I see a lot of emails forwarded from local shelters about dogs needing urgent rescue before they’re euthanized. When I was beginning to plot Unleashed, I got an email about a female boxer named Sadie. This photo was attached:

It really gripped me. Her fear and despair are palpable. I copied this photo into my plotting notes for Unleashed, and the rest of the book kind of fell into place around her. I don’t know if the real Sadie found rescue, but I made sure to take good care of her fictional counterpart. :)

Then there’s Mojo. Remember him? Cara fosters him at the beginning of the book. Mojo was a real foster dog of mine, and he was as relaxed and easygoing in real life as he is in Unleashed. In fact, we only had him a week before he found his forever home.

And the final inspiration for Unleashed, although she doesn’t appear in its pages, is my own rescue boxer, Lacy. Adopting her, loving her, and volunteering for the rescue that saved her, are the true inspiration for Unleashed and the Love to the Rescue series. I love this girl more than words can express!
